To install downlights in a concrete ceiling, first plan your layout and locate any existing electrical wiring or pipes, then drill pilot holes and insert appropriate anchors. After wiring the lights and securing them to the anchors with concrete screws, you can test the circuit to ensure they function correctly.

    1. Planning and Preparation

    • Plan your layout:
Determine the ideal placement for your downlights to provide sufficient and even illumination throughout the room.
    • Locate obstacles:
Before drilling, check for hidden electrical wires, plumbing pipes, or other obstructions within the concrete ceiling.
    • Isolate the circuit:
Turn off the power to the circuit you'll be working on at the main breaker to prevent electrical shock.

    2. Drilling and Anchoring

    • Mark the locations:
Use a laser or tape measure to accurately mark where each downlight will be installed.
    • Drill pilot holes:
Use a hammer drill with a masonry bit designed for concrete to drill the initial holes.
    • Install anchors:
Insert suitable rawl plugs (heavy-duty plugs for solid fixings) into the pilot holes.

    3. Wiring and Mounting

    • Wire the downlights: Connect the wires from the new downlights to the existing power source, using proper connectors like WAGO connectors.
    • Secure the fixture: Mount the downlights to the ceiling by attaching them to the anchors.

    4. Finishing and Testing

    • Test the lights:
Turn the power back on at the breaker and test each downlight to ensure they are working correctly.
    • Finishing touches:
Once the installation is complete, you may want to finish the surrounding area with plaster and paint for a clean look.
