I’ve got a consultation coming up, and honestly, I’m not sure what I’m supposed to ask the surgeon. My mum says to write everything down but I’m drawing a blank. For anyone who’s gone through this, what questions did you wish you’d asked before your surgery? I don’t want to forget something important and regret it later.

Great question. When I had my consultation, I made a massive list and still felt like I forgot something. Some big ones: ask about their qualifications, how many times they’ve done your specific procedure, what kind of aftercare you’ll get, and what risks there are. Also, make sure to talk about costs—sometimes things add up after the initial price. When I went abroad, I used plastic surgery and they answered every little question in English, which helped a lot. No question is too small, honestly. It’s your body and your money, so ask everything you want to know.

It’s always better to over-prepare. I know someone who brought a notebook and just wrote down anything that came to mind. The surgeon didn’t mind at all. No harm in being thorough.
