Changes to League Mechanics and Reward Structure

One of the most noticeable reasons why currency farming feels different in this league of Path of Exile 2 is due to the way GGG has restructured league mechanics and their associated rewards. In previous leagues mechanics like Delirium or Heist delivered bulk currency and high-density loot in a relatively straightforward fashion. However this league introduces a more segmented and conditional reward system where players must complete specific triggers or fulfill criteria to unlock major rewards. This slows down traditional farming routes and forces players to adjust their strategies. Many common league mechanics now require an extra step to unlock maximum rewards and the loot is sometimes backloaded making fast farming builds feel less efficient than they once were.
Economy Slowdown and Divine Orb Scarcity
Another key reason currency farming feels different is the current state of the trade economy. Divine orbs remain the central trade currency but their supply in this league is more limited due to a lower drop rate from common league encounters. While previous patches had strong divine drops from bosses or specific mechanics like Harvest and Expedition this league requires more time investment for similar results. This scarcity has inflated the value of divine orbs and made crafting much more expensive which discourages casual flipping and short-term currency loops. The impact on lower-tier currency like chaos orbs is also significant because fewer divine conversions are happening in the early stages of the league which used to stabilize prices and drive trade volume.
Shifts in Player Behavior and Meta Builds
Player behavior this league has also shifted due to meta changes which affects how currency flows through the game. Many popular early league builds that were traditionally used for fast farming such as Tornado Shot Deadeye or Seismic Trap Saboteur have received subtle nerfs or indirect efficiency reductions. In their place slower more methodical builds with better scaling potential are being prioritized leading to a slower pace of map clearing and loot acquisition overall. This affects group farming and magic find rotations as well where previously clear-speed builds could rake in currency through fast loops. The current meta emphasizes survivability and scaling over raw speed which alters the rhythm of farming for everyone involved.
Crafting System Adjustments and Bench Nerfs
GGG’s changes to the crafting bench and deterministic crafting options have further disrupted the currency farming ecosystem. Players used to rely heavily on bench crafts to turn low-tier drops into high-value items via meta-mods and suffix locking but these options have been limited or made more expensive in this patch. As a result fewer profitable crafts are being made and crafting as a source of currency is less viable for many mid-tier players. Without access to predictable crafting outcomes many are choosing to sell raw currency or gamble on loot instead which redistributes how and when currency enters the market.
    Atlas Tree and Scarab Rebalancing
The current league has also rebalanced the Atlas passive tree making some previously reliable farming strategies less appealing. For example farming strongboxes with high quantity modifiers or stacking Legion encounters with Beyond has been made less profitable due to node changes. Scarabs also now have more conditional effects meaning players must plan routes and mechanics more carefully instead of blindly stacking as many quantity boosts as possible. This reduces the impact of brute-force strategies and shifts currency farming toward more intelligent and reactive planning which feels different from the high-speed plug-and-play farming styles of previous leagues.
    Increased Reliance on Niche Mechanics

Finally there is an increased reliance on niche mechanics like Essence Corruption Ritual Favor or Tainted Currency farming to make up for what was lost in traditional farming loops. These systems are often less intuitive more RNG-reliant or require specialized gear and builds to access effectively. As a result only players who invest significant time into research and experimentation are seeing the same kind of returns as past leagues. The barrier to entry for highly profitable farming strategies has gone up which makes the league feel more difficult and unfamiliar for many players particularly those who rely on tried-and-true strategies from previous cycles.
